CTMS has a structured approach to teaching literacy through systematic and sequential teaching of sounds, letters, words and decoding strategies in the junior school (Y0-2). Running alongside and throughout the school is a rich literacy programme including poetry, plays, inquiry texts and storytelling. Currently the school uses a wide range of texts, including the Ministry of Education Phonics Plus texts, and anticipates introducing the Better Start Literacy Approach (BSLA) later in 2024/2025.
